Instagram++ is a tweaked version of the official iOS app, which makes Instagram easier and more convenient to use. It also improves on the UI, and introduces demanding features, such as photo/video downloads and sharing, etc.


Since Instagram++ is not available on the App Store, ideally you would require to jailbreak your iPhone or iPad in order to install the app. But here, we’ll demonstrate how you may install Instagram++ on your iOS device without jailbreaking it.

Install Instagram++ without jailbreak

How To Install iOS apps from outside the App Store

Apple has always been quite strict about its App Store policies, disallowing any app that violates its content policies. However, because of these policies, many demanding apps, such as console emulators, torrent clients, etc., do not usually make it to the App Store. Of course, one way of getting such apps on your iPhone or iPad is to break down Apple’s walled garden by jailbreaking the device.

However, by jailbreaking your device, you may be exposing it to a number of vulnerabilities. Moreover, you might lose official support from Apple in certain situations. If you’re only trying to get a few apps from outside the App Store that don’t require any special system permissions, side-loading is a safer option. It keeps the walled garden intact, but also lets you install unapproved iOS apps at the same time.

How to install apps without App Store – No Jailbreak

The method of installing apps from outside the App Store may differ slightly, based on the form in which you get the app.

Getting the app files from outside the App Store

If a particular app is not available on the App Store, you might be able to get it from external sources, in any of the three forms — an IPA file, a DEB file or the Source Code. Installing apps from the source code or DEB file would require the latest version of Xcode on a Mac. However, installing an app from an IPA file can be done on a Windows PC too, as it doesn’t require Xcode.

Install iOS apps from .IPA file

If you already have the IPA file for an app that you want to install on your non-jailbroken iOS device, you need another application called Cydia Impactor, to re-sign the app with an Apple ID. Once the IPA is signed, you can install it on your iOS device.
Note:
#1 You need a Mac or Windows PC with iTunes installed, for Cydia Impactor to work.
#2 If the intended app to be installed is a tweaked version of an app that is already present on your iOS device, ensure that you uninstall it first.
Follow the steps below to install an IPA file without jailbreaking your iOS device (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch):
  1. Download and install Cydia Impactor on your Mac or Windows PC.
  2. Connect your iOS device to your Mac or Windows PC via a USB cable.
  3. Once the device is connected, launch Cydia Impactor and drag the downloaded IPA file onto the application window.
  4. You’ll be requested to enter a working Apple ID and password. It is recommended to create a separate account exclusively for this purpose.
  5. Next, click OK on the Apple Developer certificate warning. The intended app will now be installed on your device.
  6. On your iPhone or iPad, go to the Profiles settings screen. Depending on the iOS version running on your device, this may be achieved by going through either “Settings >> General >> Profiles & Device Management” or “Settings >> General >> Device Management” or “Settings >> General >> Profiles”.
  7. Tap on the Apple ID that you signed the IPA file with, and “Trust” the developer. This will enable your iOS device to run apps that are signed with the above Apple ID.
You have successfully installed the IPA file without jailbreaking your iOS device.

Install iOS apps from .DEB file

If you have a DEB file for the app that you intend to install, you will need App Signer to sign the app with your Apple ID, and convert the DEV file into an IPA file. Additionally, you also need Xcode to install the app on your iOS device. Hence, this method will only work on a Mac and not on Windows PC (since Xcode is not available for Windows).
The following steps will guide you to set up and install an iOS app from a DEV file:
  1. Download and install Xcode, if it is not available on your Mac.
  2. Open Xcode and go to Xcode >> Preferences.
  3. Click on the ‘+’ button in the Accounts panel and enter your Apple ID details. This will turn your Apple ID into a free developer account.
  4. Go back to Xcode and select the “Create New Xcode project” option.
  5. Select Single View Application and click Next.
  6. Type the Product Name (app name), unique Organization Identifier (for e.g. com.yourname.appname), and select Swift as the coding Language. Also ensure the “Development Target” version of iOS matches the iOS version on your iPhone or iPad.
  7. You may see an alert about Provisioning Profiles. Click the “Fix Issue” button to fix it.
  8. Sign in with your Apple ID if necessary.
  9. From the drop-down menu, select your development team (usually your name).
  10. Download App Signer and unzip the file.
  11. Launch App Signer and click on the Browse button next to the Input file.
  12. Under the Signing certificate option, click the drop-down menu and select your Apple ID.
  13. Under Provisioning Profile, click the drop-down menu and select your intended app (for e.g. com.yourname.appname).
  14. Click the Start button. App Signer will now sign the app with your Apple ID and also convert it to an IPA file, so that Xcode can install it.
  15. Connect your iOS device to your Mac or Windows PC via a USB cable.
  16. Go back to Xcode and click Window >> Devices.
  17. Select your iOS device from the left sidebar and click on the ‘+’ button under “Installed Apps” section.
  18. Select the IPA file created with App Signer and click Open. The app will be pushed to your iOS device.
  19. Once the app is sent to your iOS device, head to the Profiles settings screen on your iOS device. Depending on the iOS version running on your device, this may be achieved by going through either Settings >> General >> Profiles & Device Management or Settings >> General >> Device Management or Settings >> General profile.
  20. Tap on the Apple ID that you used in Xcode and “Trust” it to allow the use of apps signed by your account.
You may now launch the installed app from the Home screen.

Install iOS apps from source code (Xcode Project)

If you have the Xcode Project file of the app you want to install (from GitHub or any other source), you can build the project using Xcode and install it on your iOS device. Follow the steps below to install an app from an Xcode Project on to your non-jailbroken iOS device:
  1. Download and install Xcode on your Mac.
  2. Open Xcode and go to Xcode >> Preferences.
  3. Click on the ‘+’ button in the Accounts panel and enter your Apple ID details. This will turn your Apple ID into a free developer account.
  4. Open the source project file (with XCODEPROJ extension).
  5. Plug your iOS device into your computer.
  6. Click Product >> Destination and select your iOS Device.
  7. Back at the main Xcode screen, find the Bundle Identifier box and enter a unique name (for e.g. com.yourname.appname).
  8. Select your Apple ID from the Team drop-down menu.
  9. Click the “Fix Issue” button and sign in with your Apple ID (if necessary).
  10. A window will pop up asking for your team name, from the drop-down menu, select your development team (usually your name).
  11. Now, click on the Play button to compile the app. If there aren’t any errors, the app will be pushed to your iOS device.
  12. Once the app is sent to your iOS device, head to the Profiles settings screen on your iOS device. Depending on the iOS version running on your device, this may be achieved by going through either Settings >> General >> Profiles & Device Management or Settings >> General >> Device Management or Settings >> General profile.
  13. Tap on the Apple ID that you used in Xcode and “Trust” it to allow the use of apps signed by your account.
Go back to the Home screen and launch the installed app.
The methods mentioned above will enable you to install apps from IPA, DEB or Xcode Project sources on your non-jailbroken iOS devices for free. But usually, apps installed from such sources are not usually verified as malware-free by any recognized body. Also, you might find the above processes complex and inconvenient.

How To record your iPhone, iPad screen

If you have ever tried to record the screencast of your iPhone or iPad (perhaps for creating video demonstrations and tutorials), you might already be aware that there aren’t any global screen recording apps available on the App Store. If you want to install screen recording apps, it would usually require you to jailbreak your iOS device. But if you don’t want to jailbreak it, here are some screen recording solutions for you.

Record iOS screencast without jailbreak

There are primarily two ways to record an iOS screen. One way is to record using a computer. The other way is to record using apps from the iOS device itself.

If you have a Mac running OS X Yosemite (10.10 +) and an iPhone or iPad with iOS 8 (or above), it’s quite easy to record on-screen activities of the iOS device with QuickTime Player.
  1. Connect your iOS device to your Mac using the Lightning connecter.
  2. Launch QuickTime Player on Mac and go to File >> New Movie Recording.
  3. In the new Movie Recording window, click on the downward arrow next to the Record button and select your iOS device from the Camera and Microphone sections. This will set up QuickTime Player to record audio and video from your iPhone or iPad. Optionally, you may also set the recording quality.
  4. Note: At this stage, you should be able to preview the iOS device screen on QuickTime (without audio). This is good for providing live demonstrations, but it’s still not recording anything.
  5. Click on the Record button to start recording. Now, you can perform the required actions (that you need to record) on your iPhone or iPad.
  6. When done, click on the Stop button (the same Record button) to stop recording.
  7. You can now export the recorded video by going to File >> Export and provide a suitable name and location to save it.
But this feature is not supported on older versions of Mac OS X and iOS. If you don’t use a Mac or don’t have the latest version of OS installed on your devices, check out the next section for third party desktop-based solutions.

Record iOS screencast using screen recording software

If you are a Windows user or do not have iOS 8 / OS X Yosemite installed on your devices, you can try some of the third party clients like Reflector, AirServer or X-Mirage, which allow you to screencast and record on-screen actions of connected iOS devices using Apple’s AirPlay feature. All these programs have desktop clients for both Mac and PC. Such programs are usually not available for free, but if you’re looking for a high-quality screen recording experience on your older Mac or Windows PC, these are just the ones you need.

Record iOS screen without computer – Screen recorder app

Any screen recorder for iPad and iPhone available on the App Store, will only allow you to record screen within the app. On the contrary, global iOS screen recorder apps are available on Cydia, for which you would usually require to jailbreak your device first.
But a few third party services allow you to install specific iOS apps that are not available on the App Store, without jailbreaking your device. Not all these services are reliable and apps downloaded from such services might stop working abruptly, as Apple keeps making frequent changes in order to prevent such side-loading activities.
Emu4iOS is a free service that allows users to install non-App Store apps on non-jailbroken iOS devices. However, Build Store is a bit more reliable compared to Emu4iOS and other similar services. The service charges you a yearly subscription fee of $9.99 per device. In return, they frequently update their repository to keep their apps active.
  1. Go to the Build Store website and sign up for a new account. You need to pay $9.99 for a yearly subscription.
  2. On your registered iOS device, open Safari and navigate to the iRec application page.
  3. Tap on the Install button. iOS will prompt for a confirmation to allow the installation. Just click on the OK button.
  4. Once iRec is installed, open the app and provide a suitable name for the recording.
  5. When ready, tap on Start Recording. The app will minimize at the top and allow you to record screen activities.
  6. When done recording, tap on the minimized banner on top of the screen and tap on Stop Recording. The recorded video shall now be available under Recordings tab.
Optionally, you can also export the video to Camera Roll location.
The recorded video might show a bit of lag and drop considerable number of frames. For more stable and reliable screen recording solutions, it is recommended to use a suitable desktop client.

According to Apple, these apps are not allowed because this category of applications is often used for the purpose of infringing third party rights. In order to install torrent clients on iOS devices, we usually require jailbreak. However, in this article we’ll show you how to download torrents on iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch; and that too without jailbreaking your device.

How to download Torrents on iOS

In spite of Apple’s restrictions, it is still possible to download files via torrents on iOS devices without jailbreaking them. There are two possible ways of doing this.

Torrent Client for iOS

Although no official BitTorrent clients are available in the App Store, you can still get full desktop class torrent download experience on your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Say hello to iTransmission!
iTransmission is a native BitTorrent client for iOS. It uses the same backend as Transmission, the BitTorrent client for Mac. Since the app is not available on the App Store, the installation method will be slightly different.
If you have a jailbroken iOS device, you can get iTransmission from Cydia for free. But if you don’t want to jailbreak your device, there are a few third party services that allow you to install apps like iTransmission without jailbreaking your device. However, most of these solutions are usually unable to provide a long-term support.

After the torrent is added to queue, it will take some time to begin the download; but once the download starts, it is capable of utilizing the full bandwidth. Magnet links take more time to start downloading than direct torrents because it takes some time to fetch the torrent metadata from the magnet link. Once the download starts, wait for the download to be completed.
The app may be disconnected if you push it to the background. Keep the app open until the download is complete, otherwise your download might get interrupted.
You can also control the upload and download limit or specify the port to be used for torrent downloads.
When the download is completed, tap on the torrent to open the Details screen. Go to Files(under More Section) and tap on the individual files to move them one by one to a supported application of your choice.
By default, iTransmission might not download data over cellular network. If you want to enable torrent download over cellular data, tap the gear icon at the bottom right corner to open Preferences and turn on Cellular Network under Network Interface. Finally, tap on Save in the top right corner to save the changes.

Download Torrents on iOS (via web based services)

If you don’t wish to use torrent clients, you can still download torrents as regular downloads. There are a few third party cloud services that offer to download torrents over HTTP. You just tell the service to download torrent files on your behalf and then you download the same files from the particular service. Zbigz is one such cloud storage service.
For HTTP downloads, you can use any download manager for iOS to download files. In this example, we are using Documents app as the download manager.

Download Torrents using Zbigz on iOS

Download and install Documents app from App Store.
Open the app and drag the browser slider from the bottom right corner.
In the search box, search for a torrent file. Instead of downloading the torrent, copy the torrent / magnet link.
Now open the Zbigz website in Documents app browser and paste the link in the provided input field.
Now tap the ‘Go!’ button. Zbigz will automatically start downloading the torrent to Zbigz’s servers. While the download completes, you may minimize the application and continue other operations.
When the download is complete, just download the required files from the generated links.
Documents app will take over the download and save the files into the app’s storage.
You can track the status of downloads in the Download tab. The Downloaded files can be found in the Downloads folder within Documents app. Documents app can natively open popular media and document files. If you want, you can also open the downloaded files in other supported apps, share them over WiFi, or transfer them to your computer.

By jailbreaking your iOS device, you might void its warranty and lose official support from Apple. How To Lock WhatsApp with passcode or TouchID on iPhone

WhatsApp has probably become the go-to messenger app for many users. And since most of the conversations on the platform involve exchange of private information, perhaps one of the more desirable features, is to have a passcode or TouchID lock to prevent unauthorized access to it. This is quite easy to achieve on Android smartphones with the help of third party app lockers. But Apple’s walled ecosystem doesn’t make this possible on iPhones, unless of course, WhatsApp chooses to implement it.


There’s probably a good reason why WhatsApp hasn’t introduced the app lock feature yet. Not every smartphone has a built-in fingerprint sensor, and unlocking the app with a passcode every time you launch the app could be irritating and hence hamper the user experience. But the good news is, there are tweaked versions of WhatsApp available from third party developers, which provide such features.
Then again, such tweaked apps are not available on the App Store. So, in order to install them, you’d usually need to jailbreak your iOS device, which might not be a preferable option for all. Here, we’ll demonstrate how you can lock WhatsApp by installing a tweaked version of the app, without jailbreaking your iPhone.

Features of WhatsApp++

WhatsApp++ is a tweaked version of WhatsApp having a host of useful extra features, including passcode/TouchID app lock. Below is a list of additional features you get with WhatsApp++.
Selective Read Receipts: The “Disable Read Receipts” option on the official app lets you block message senders from seeing blue ticks even though you have read the message. However, you can’t do this on a per contact basis. WhatsApp++ lets you do so.
Disable Delivery Receipts: Others won’t get a double-tick when they send you a message even though the message gets delivered. But you’ll be able to see blue ticks from other recipients.
Custom Theme: Change the overall color of your WhatsApp.
Custom Text Color: Change text color in chat bubbles.
Send Unlimited Media: Send more than 10 media (Photos, videos, etc.) at once.
Share Music: WhatsApp++ lets you to share DRM-free Music from the iPhone Music app on WhatsApp.
Tap to record audio: Instead of holding the Record button to record audio, the app allows you to start and end recording at the tap of a button.
Passcode/TouchID: Lock your WhatsApp with both a passcode and TouchID. To set the passcode, launch WhatsApp++ on your iPhone and tap on the Settings tab >> WhatsApp+ Settings >> Set Passcode (under Security Settings).
Note: When WhatsApp++ is running in the background, you will receive chat notifications for incoming messages in WhatsApp++. Tapping on a notification will take you right into the chat without asking for a passcode, even if you have set one. Whether it’s a bug or a feature is not confirmed, but it enhances the chat experience by a small degree. However, if you don’t want anybody else to view your chats, all that you have to do is close the app by removing it from the App Switcher. In that case, you won’t receive any push notifications from the app, and you’ll need to provide the passcode when you launch it from the Home screen.

How to install WhatsApp++ on iPhone without jailbreak

If you can get the WhatsApp IPA file from any app repository on the Internet, you can install the app from the IPA using the Cydia Impactor tool. We already have a dedicated article on how you can install iOS apps from outside the App Store without jailbreaking the iOS device.
But if you use Cydia Impactor to sign the IPA file, the certificate will get expired within a short span of time, and you’d have to reinstall the app again in order to use it. On the other hand, if you already have an active Apple Developer subscription (which costs $99 per year), you may also sign the IPA with your own Apple ID, in which case the certificate will be valid for a longer period.
There are a few downsides of downloading an IPA from third party repositories too. It’s quite difficult to get an updated version of the app from other sources. And even if you do, the source might not be a reliable one. In order to ensure you get the latest version of the app, and that it’s malware free, a more recommended alternative would be to pay for a Build Store subscription (which costs $9.99/year per device).
Once your Build Store subscription is activated, you’ll be able to install many apps that are not available on the App Store, including WhatsApp++ and other tweaked apps, without jailbreaking your iPhone. Also, you don’t need an Apple Developer account to use Build Store.
Note: Usually, Build Store will not allow you to keep both WhatsApp and WhatsApp++ simultaneously on the same device. But if you want to install WhatsApp++ without removing the original WhatsApp application, you can follow the steps mentioned in this article to achieve the same.

  1. Uninstall the official version of WhatsApp, if you already have it installed.
  2. Sign up for a new BuildStore account and register your iOS device.

However, Build Store does not claim any responsibility for any action (for example, disabling of accounts) taken against the user by original app developers, for using the tweaked apps. But then again, it is unlikely that WhatsApp will ban your account for using an unofficial client.

How To Use multiple WhatsApp accounts on iPhone without jailbreak

WhatsApp, as we all know, supports only one account per device. But sometimes you might want to use two different accounts simultaneously – for instance, one for your friends & family, and another for your colleagues at the office. One way to achieve this is to get a secondary smartphone to use WhatsApp with a secondary account. But this isn’t quite a feasible solution, especially if you have only one smartphone available with you.

Another possible alternative would be to keep two different versions of WhatsApp installed on the device, and use two different accounts on each of those. In some of our previous articles, we have demonstrated how to install certain apps from outside the App Store without jailbreaking the iOS device. Some of these apps were tweaked versions of the original ones, with certain extra features included. But here too, there’s a catch — you can’t keep both the original and the tweaked app simultaneously on the same device.
Luckily, there is a way to install the tweaked version of an app, without deleting the original one. In this article, we’ll explore how to do this.
Note: WhatsApp++ is a tweaked version of WhatsApp which includes additional features that are not available in the official app. In this demonstration, we’ll be installing WhatsApp++ on an iPhone that already has the official WhatsApp client installed. You can read more about WhatsApp++ from this article.

Install WhatsApp++ on iPhone without deleting WhatsApp

All iOS apps have a specific set of parameters that define their installation behavior. The value of these parameters can be modified by the developer before building the app using Xcode. One such parameter is called “OVERWRITE_ORIGINAL_APP”, and its value is set to True in most cases. This is generally done to avoid duplication of an app whenever an update is installed.
But in our case, the app should not overwrite the original. Thus, we need to create a modified version of the app, where the “OVERWRITE_ORIGINAL_APP” parameter is set to false. This would allow the user to keep two different versions of the same app simultaneously on the same device.
Follow the steps below to install two different versions of WhatsApp on the same iPhone:
Note: The following method requires the use of Xcode, which is currently available only for Mac.

Get the WhatsApp++ IPA file

You may be able to download the WhatsApp++ IPA file from different sources on the Internet. But it’s difficult to find a reliable source, since apps available in third party repositories may contain malware. Another issue with free third party repositories is that they are unlikely to maintain the apps to their latest version.
On the contrary, Build Store is a paid third party iOS app repository that maintains its apps to their latest releases, and also verifies them to be malware-free. You can find WhatsApp++ on the Build Store.
In order to access any IPA from there, you must have an active Build Store subscription, which costs $9.99/year per device. You can find more information about Build Store from this article.
Getting the IPA from Build Store isn’t straightforward and involves a certain workaround. After you have signed up for a new Build Store account and activated your subscription, you need to perform the following steps in order to get the IPA file.
  1. Open WhatsApp++ app page using Safari on iPhone, and tap on the INSTALL button.
  2. After Build Store verifies your account, RUN button will appear. Tap and hold the button and select the Copy option.
  3. Now transfer the copied link to your Mac via any clipboard transfer app or sending the link to yourself on any IM app and accessing it from the desktop.
  4. The copied link will contain the URL of a Plist file. You can find the URL in the text succeeding “action=download-manifest&url=” portion of the link.
  5. Open this URL in a new browser window on your Mac. The Plist file will be downloaded to your computer.
  6. Open the Plist file using an editor such as TextEdit and look for the line containing “<key>url</key>”. In the succeeding line, the <string> attribute will hold the URL for the IPA file (enclosed within <string></string> tags). Copy the URL and close the file.
  7. Now download the IPA file from this URL.

Rebuild the WhatsApp++ IPA in Xcode

Now that you have the IPA file, the next step is to rebuild the app in such a way that it doesn’t overwrite the existing app during its installation. For this, you need to ensure that the “OVERWRITE_ORIGINAL_APP” parameter is set to False before rebuilding the IPA using Xcode.
In this demonstration, we’ll take the help of a third party Xcode project called ppsideloader, which is available for download from GitHub.
  1. Download and extract ppsideloader to your Mac.
  2. Go to the extracted folder and delete the “app.ipa” file present inside.
  3. Copy the downloaded WhatsApp++ IPA into the ppsideloader folder and rename it as “app.ipa”.
  4. Open the PP_SIDELOADER_OPTIONS.plist file in the same folder.
  5. Modify the 3 keys within the <dict></dict> tags as follows:
    <key>KEEP_ORIGINAL_APP_NAME</key>

    <key>OVERWRITE_ORIGINAL_APP</key>
    
<false/>

    <key>CREATE_IPA_FILES</key>

    <true/>
  6. Save and close the Plist file.
  7. Download and install Xcode, if it is not available on your Mac.
  8. Now connect your iPhone to your Mac and double click on “ppsideloader.xcodeproj”. Xcode should now launch the ppsideloader project.
  9. Go to Xcode >> Preferences. Click on the ‘+’ button in the Accounts panel and choose “Add Apple ID…”.
  10. Enter your Apple ID details. This will turn your Apple ID into a free developer account.
  11. Select the Account you just added and click on View Details on the right side.
  12. Under Signing Identities, click on the Create button adjacent to iOS Development, and then click on Done.
  13. Select the ppsideloader project on the left pane. The project preferences will show up on the right side.
  14. Provide a unique Bundle Identifier name, something like “com.myaccount.ppwhatsapp”.
  15. In the drop down for Team, select the account that you just added in Xcode.
  16. Click the “Fix Issue” button and sign in with your Apple ID (if necessary), and set the Deployment Target to your iOS version.
  17. Click on the Play button on the top of the Xcode window. Xcode will now build the app and install it on your iPhone. During this, Xcode may ask for access to your keychain. Just keep clicking on Allow, or select Always Allow if you don’t want to be bothered by repeated prompts.
When the deployment is completed, WhatsApp++ will be installed on your iPhone along with the original WhatsApp.

Now that you have two versions of WhatsApp installed, you can log in to both of them with different phone numbers and use them simultaneously. Of course, you’ll need to verify your secondary account, so ensure that you provide a valid phone number which is active and available with you.
Using WhatsApp++ gives you many additional features, such as app lock with passcode or TouchID, Selective Read Receipts, Disable Delivery Receipts, etc. You can get the full list of available features in this article. Additionally, if you want to hide your Last Seen time from others, without having to compromise viewing their Last Seen times as well, you can stay active on your secondary account while being idle on your primary account. That way, the people who only know your primary contact number, won’t be aware of your activity using the secondary account!
The rebuilt version of IPA file can be found by navigating through the directory tree within the “products” folder created within the ppsideloader directory. The IPA file can be found at the very end of the tree.
The Apple ID that you have used to sign the IPA file is a free developer account, and apps signed with this account will stop working within a few weeks; post which, you need to re-sign them once again. Having a backup of the modified IPA file allows you to skip the long process. You just have to install the IPA using Cydia Impactor. Moreover, if you don’t have a Mac, you can rebuild the app on a friend’s Mac (if available) and install the modified IPA using Cydia Impactor (which is also available for Windows).

Find below the list of banks operating zero balance and their account opening requirements for the two generic types of bank account, savings and current accounts.

Guaranty Trust Bank
GTBank were the first to comply with this directive from the CBN and this has tremendously impacted well on their customer base. Little wonder every GTB banking hall and ATM vaults are always overcrowded till today. To open both savings and current accounts with GTB you don’t need to deposit anything. This attracts both rich and the poor to the bank because they are made to feel that they are in
control of their money. GTB not only operate on zero balance, they also charge nothing as Commission On Turnover (COT).

Requirement:

==>1. Proof of your residential address which is normally a utility bill that bears the address on the account opening form as your residence address or contact. For most people, electricity bill or water bill is sufficient. Other city dwellers may be able to produce waste management, like LAWMA (or its agents) bill. Any of these bills should be current; issued not more than three months ago. Tenement rate or even rent receipt can suffix here.

==>2. Mode of identification, which can be any of the National Id Card, a valid drivers’ licence, an international passport or a voter’s registration card.

==>3. For current account, you need two referees having a current account with GTB. But for savings account, you don’t need a referee.

==>4. Visitation report (to your residence).

==>5. Two passport photographs.

Zenith Bank


Zenith Bank also did not ignore completely that directive. Because of its professionalism in banking and respect it commands in the committee of banks, it can’t just stoop as low as operating on zero opening and minimum balances for all its account. Of course, to open an individual current account you will need zero naira, though it is not so with some of its modified accounts. But Zenith does not fix a minimum balance, meaning that your current account can read ₦0.00.  For savings account, however, you must maintain a minimum balance of ₦500, though you don’t need any deposit for the account to be opened.


Requirement: It is essentially the same as GTB’s.

Ecobank
Known as The Pan African Bank, they have very customer friendly operations. Their savings and current accounts opening requirements are like that of many other banks. Though you will need a minimum of ₦5,000 to open a current account, they allow a minimum balance of ₦0.00. It’s not the same with savings. The minimum balance for savings account is ₦500.


Requirement: Like those of Zenith and GTB.

First City Monument Bank


FCMB incorporates private banking services, private customer current accounts, savings, deposits, investment savings products, custody, credit and debit cards, consumer loans and more under two categories of savings and current account. Since it operates basically on and with money, it doesn’t throw all these modified accounts opened to zero balance. A visit to its site at http://www.fcmb.com will show you some of these accounts that can either be opened or operated with zero balance.


Requirement: It is almost the same with other banks above apart from the fact that introduction letters are required from each of the referees in case of current account. Alien resident’s work or resident permit has to be sighted. Also, it requires just one passport photograph with name and signature appended at the back.

Access Bank


Modest bank claiming to lead by example, setting new standards and challenging the status quo, the bank claims to be blazing the trail in banking and bringing the change for all to enjoy. Though ₦10,000 is needed to open their individual current account, the minimum balance is zero. You can withdraw all the balance in your account whenever you need it. Their Savings Account also operates on zero balance and the minimum balance for Instant Savings (Tier 1) is also zero naira.


Requirement: Just like FCMB.

Keystone Bank


Formerly known as Platinum and Habib, they tried to maintain the banking traditions of their progenitor. They provide credit, treasury and account opening services. Some of their modified accounts like Quick Save Accounts in different types allow zero opening balance and zero minimum balance. The amount of interest will depend on how much you keep as balance and for how long. 


Requirement: It bears semblance with those of other banks. The only difference is that they accept trade association membership card as mode of identification.

Union Bank


This is one of the largest and oldest banks in Nigeria. Formed by merging of Union Bank, Union Merchant Bank, Broad Bank and Universal Trust Bank, it still maintains wait-and-see attitude of the traditional banks. It also allows zero minimum and opening balances in one of its accounts.


Requirement: Just like Keystone Bank, it allows any Id card issued by any registered company or association for savings account’s mode of identification.

The terms and conditions of most of these banks are not very clear. In some cases, their aggressive marketers hawking account opening forms around the streets may not be able to explain into details these issues of minimum and opening balance and account opening requirements. Customers are greeted with shock after their initial deposit to these banks when they fully realise what they are in to. But of the 16 reliable licensed commercial banks operating in the shores of the country, the above seven can operate on zero balance, with terms and condition applying.
